409L stainless steel strip is an ultra-low-carbon, titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel, an economical stainless steel in the 400 series. Its typical composition is 10.5%-11.75% chromium (Cr), with a combined carbon and nitrogen content not exceeding 0.03%. A moderate amount of titanium (Ti) is added to enhance stability. Due to its excellent heat and corrosion resistance, combined with its low cost, 409L stainless steel strip is widely used in industrial applications requiring high-temperature and oxidation resistance but less demanding surface finish and corrosion resistance. It is a key structural material in the automotive, energy, and home appliance industries. 409L stainless steel strip's greatest strengths are its excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and thermal fatigue resistance. At temperatures between 600°C and 750°C, it forms a dense protective chromium oxide film on its surface, effectively preventing further oxidation and making it suitable for components subject to long-term high-temperature operation. At the same time, the addition of titanium stabilizes the precipitation of carbonitrides, inhibiting intergranular corrosion and significantly improving the corrosion resistance and structural stability of welded joints. No heat treatment is required after welding for ready use, making it particularly suitable for the large-scale manufacture of welded structural components. As a ferritic stainless steel, 409L has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity, resulting in low thermal stress and excellent thermal shock resistance. It can withstand frequent temperature fluctuations and is not susceptible to deformation or cracking. Furthermore, the material is nickel-free, offering low production costs and a high cost-effectiveness ratio. Its strong magnetic properties facilitate subsequent processing and identification.
